New Prompt

Hey guys! I was recently involved in a situation where I had to help someone partly down from a mountain to a spot where they could be lifeflighted to a hospital. While heading down the mountain I had a lot of thoughts going through my head. After we got him in the helicopter and everyone got to safety, the adrenaline ran out. I realized how scared I was for his safety and for my safety. It made me think about what he was possibly thinking as he struggled down the mountain, so here's my prompt for this week:

Think of a situation you've been in and write about the same situation from the perspective of someone else who was there. Write it in the comments below or copy a link to your story in the comments. Due next Monday, July 28.

I look forward to reading your responses!

  1. THUNK!
What was that!? I think to myself, alarmed. A commotion started from the students behind me. "I think that guy just hit our bus!" One of the girls behind me exclaims. I look into my rear-view mirrors and see a boy lying next to a bike, in the middle of the intersection.
"Oh my god! John!" I exclaim, bringing the bus to a stop. All the students on the bus start talking to each other is rapid, hushed voices.
What do I do? I thought frantically.
"I'm a trainer!" One of the girls in the back stood up and said. She walked up the aisle, "I'm going to help him." I wasn't going to argue with her. I opened the doors of the bus, and she rushed out to help him. I finally started following protocols. I got in contact with the school, letting them know we may be late. Once I got off the phone, I was informed the police had already been called. In fact, I could hear the faint noise of sirens.
"Hey!" I said, getting the attention of the students, "I'm going out there. Here's a sheet of paper, they're going to need. I need everyone to write your name on the sheet where you were sitting when it happened. Everybody just stay put for now!" I handed the paper to the girl in the first seat, and left the bus.
It just so happened, I knew this kid. As I walked towards his body, I noticed someone in scrubs standing besides him, along with the trainer girl I let off my bus.
The lady in scrubs approached me, "Is everyone alright?" she asked.
    "Yes." I answered, "How's he?"
"He seems fine. A bit in shock perhaps. I'm a nurse, you see. I saw the entire thing happen though, and I'll wait around to answer any questions." The nurse informed me.
"So what did happen?" I asked. All I knew, is that I was turning the corner, and this kid ran into my bus while on his bicycle somehow.
"You were turning, like you should have been, and he was going straight. I think his head was down, and he didn't stop at the stop sign. He looked up in time to see the bus and jerked his bike to the side. He hit the bus only from the side, so his neck seems fine. He seems most concerned about his bike." As the nurse finished recounting the tale for me, the police were pulling up.
I was taken to the side and talked to the policeman for 20 minutes. Mostly he asked about what I was doing and what the kids on my bus were. I informed him everything was just as normal as the day before. After awhile, he came onto the bus with me. He asked for the sheet the students had filled out.
The rest was mostly a blur. I organized for another bus to be brought up to take the kids to school. It came within 5 minutes, and then the students were all gone.
John had been loaded into an ambulance and taken away. I was informed he should be just fine.
I still wondered if he would be. All of a sudden it occurred to me I may lose my job. Then I thought about how the nurse told me of what happened and I thought the aforementioned to be very unlikely.

This actually happened to me this past spring except I was a student on that bus. John is fine, though his bike is not... and the bus driver did not lose her job! This was fun to write! ^.^ (sorry for posting it late though)
